Hello,, blogland?

As it is only 10 weeks away from Christmas, I have plunged into meeting my goal of making my blog into a printed book. I have been blogging for 3 1/2 years and I get week in the knees thinking of how I would feel to loose all the work I have done if someday I turned on the internet and I could not pull up my blog. So, this giant task has come upon me. It would seem easy enough to just slurp my blog into a pre-chosen layout on blurb.com and do a little reworking here and there and then press "print". Well, ladies and gentlemen, it is not that easy. First, in the beginning of my blog I did not include any details at all, so I have been perusing my journal to add all of those all important details. I have also found my camera and photo skills from almost 4 years ago utterly unacceptable and not print-worthy. However, something must be printed, so unworthy as it is, I proceed. Also, as I try to make this permanent printed record I waver so unconfidently about what to include. It's not really a journal, it's not really a scrapbook, but it can be more than a blog because it's more personal.. or is it? Which makes me wish my blog were more personal. It has become a file to record the events and growth of life and I find it lacking the emotional, passionate touch that is present in many of the blogs I admire.
I find I tend to say less rather than more when it comes to recording things since even my dear husband, who loves me, finds my journal far too wordy to actually read.
So I guess my request I send out to the universe of blogland tonight is that I need a little incentive. Is it worth my effort to record all the details. Do you believe someone will really read my record? And if no one reads it, is it still worth making. I am compelled.. and not exactly sure why.

I made mine into a book one year. 2007. I have 2008, and now 2009 on my "to do" list. I didn't slurp mine---because for some odd reason it just wouldn't slurp. I don't regret making it for one second. It was worth every minute it took. It wasn't perfect, but neither am I. So it works. Do it. You'll be oh so glad you did. You would regret it more if you didn't. (I'm trying to motivate myself to start the task again).

Hi Melody..
1. i LOVE ALL of your posts...

2. your Aquarium ROCKS...its so cool.

its important to put your blog in a book your family will treasure for generations to come ..just think that is three+ years of your life thoughts and feelings..and what better way to know the wonderful person you are and i cant help but think how wonderful for your children to read and know how much love and time you devoted to your family

I read your blog every day my dear. In fact here I am at work and in between seeing patients I turn to the blog to see what you are thinking and if there is a new wonderful post to read. Your efforts are a treasure to me and to our family and the book you are creating will be the crown jewel. Your journals are not too wordy, and I feel derelict if you feel the that way in the faintest. I hope you know that reading your written word brings me a lot of joy. I hope this is incentive enough for you to continue working on this monumentous task. Keep up the strong work my love.

Your husband, Paul

Ditto to Jayne!! And what Paul said was so sweet. You are a good writer, and I think that any way you decide will turn out really nice. As for being personal, I think that that's what makes it fun to read - if it was generic, all it would be is "just a blog".

Isn't my husband the best?
The book is coming along great, thanks to so much encouragement.
I'm really pleased with the progress and do feel it is worthwhile now that I am through the difficult spots. Thanks everyone!

Go for it Melody. You will never be sorry, but you will be so sorry if you lose all that history, however imperfect you might see it now.

I put mine in a book and this is why:
YOU WILL HAVE SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCES. I HOPE THAT YOU WILL WRITE THEM DOWN AND KEEP A RECORD OF THEM, THAT YOU WILL READ THEM FROM TIME TO TIME AND REFRESH YOUR MEMORY OF THOSE MEANINGFUL AND SIGNIFICANT THINGS. SOME MAY BE FUNNY. SOME MAY BE SIGNIFICANT ONLY TO YOU. SOME OF THEM MAY BE SACRED AND QUIETLY BEAUTIFUL. SOME MAY BUILD ONE UPON ANOTHER UNTIL THEY REPRESENT A LIFETIME OF SPECIAL EXPERIENCE." GORDON B. HINCKLEY, 2006

I love your blog! What better way to keep up with my faraway sweet grandsons! I love the Eirik book that you did for us for Christmas last year and have looked forward all year to book two. Please keep writing. We have such a great time reading and laughing at your cute boys and their antics. I just wish blogs had been invented sooner. Maybe there would be more detail about the sweet child that you were. And Paul- I always knew you were nicer than she says you are. What a sweet thing to say!
